A Muse ReImagined

We can see all around us the signs and the immediacy of needing a path forward that is sustainable and equitable.  This requires all of us and especially those involved in our industries to be thoughtful at every level.  In fashion it requires us to rethink how clothing is made, by whom, how it is sourced, how it’s presented, and why it is made in the first place.  Out of these contemplations I present an exceptional project that infused these hopeful projections for the future in all its details.

This story is told through a reimagined lens of a remarkable and complicated muse, Edie Sedgwick.  Instead of using more obtrusive tactics that push onto you the message of sustainability, we invite you into this dreamy nostalgic world.  We invite you to stay a while, to be drawn in, to look at the details and to feel calmed and delighted by the whimsical nature of the character and the world she lives in.

The set piece was made almost entirely of found cardboard; cut, formed, and attached together by hand.  All cardboard was provided by people around us, happy to unload their recent shipping boxes for an artful purpose.  The only purchase made was the craft paper that was used for the hand printed wallpaper and floors.  When we are done with the set pieces, they can be recycled again.  We delighted in using this normally discarded material and giving it a new creative life, forming like clay to create our world.  We embraced the natural texture of the cardboard and hoped to captivate with the playful illusion of the set.

The Green Savage Dress was hand knit with yarn made from recycled materials, leftover jersey fabric from European mills.  The Stormy Silk Scarves were dyed using low impact dyes that minimize water usage.  The “No Muppets Were Harmed in the Making of This Purse” Purse has been pared down to a very limited run, reducing waste on excess materials.  The Night and Day Reversible Vest offers a multitude of looks out of one piece.  It is able to transform from casual to formal and can be used for either minimalist or more layered looks.  This reduces the need to have more pieces in a person’s personal collection.  The sustainability aspect in the clothing and accessories was explored through many different angles and approaches.

This project was a joyous collaboration with an amazingly talented and creative team.  We were all delighted to take part in bringing this world to life.  The day of the photo shoot was one that felt creatively authentic, playful, reflective, and incredibly special.  We hope that you can feel this in the world we are presenting.
